Recovering 90% of wastewater – and avoiding costly off-site disposal.

The challenge

A U.S. steel manufacturer was paying more than $8,000 per day to haul difficult-to-treat wastewater off-site for disposal.

The solution

Rick and his team designed a reliable, automated, fouling-resistant semi-batch reverse-osmosis system to recover the wastewater for reuse at the facility.

The result

The design recovered approximately 90% of the wastewater as reusable water, reducing the residual waste stream to about 10% of its previous volume.

Status: Rick Stover’s prior professional experience. The pre-project disposal cost is as reported; recovery is a design figure. The diagram is a conceptual illustration of semi-batch RO, not the installed equipment.
